Gary Mason

Lawrence, Kansas – June 12, 2017 -- PrairieChar, Inc., developer of an innovative approach to converting waste biomass into valuable products, today announced that Gary Mason, former Deputy Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and current CEO of iSi Environmental has joined its Board of Advisors. Mr. Mason has spent 38 years in the environmental industry, including positions in state and federal government, consulting firms and the chemical industry. Gary is currently CEO of iSi Environmental, an environmental consulting firm which he founded in 1990 and which has grown into a regional presence with over 160 employees. Recently, Gary completed an assignment with the State of Kansas, as Deputy Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, where he was responsible for the environmental division of the agency. This included permitting and monitoring of waste management activities, livestock operations, and water and air quality. “Gary brings to PrairieChar extensive knowledge of waste recycling technology and its application in the marketplace. In addition, he has a tremendous understanding of the federal, state and local regulatory framework around recycling technologies and is well networked within these sectors. This background enables Gary to provide PrairieChar with wise guidance and connections to people, agencies and resources throughout PrairieChar’s expansion,” said PrairieChar CEO Robert Herrington. “It is a great opportunity to be part of the PrairieChar team” said Mr. Mason. “PrairieChar’s technology provides an environmentally sound way to manage animal manure that will protect our waterways from nutrient leaching and runoff. Nitrate leaching is hard to remove from our drinking water and phosphate runoff is the primary cause of toxic blue-green algae in our waterways.”
